Karen was admitted to practice in 2007 and holds degrees in both Law and Nursing and a Post Graduate Certificate in Intensive Care Nursing.
Having worked as an Intensive Care Nurse for over 14 years, Karen has acquired a unique insight into the range of duty of care issues and system constraints faced by health care practitioners both in public and private practice.
Previously, Karen gained valuable experience working as an assistant to Corporate Counsel at Victoria’s largest public hospital network assisting with a range of medico-legal, legal risk management and coronial matters. She has also attended VCAT hearings in OH&S, Guardianship and Mental Health Review Board Hearings.
In 2004, Karen undertook a Public Interest Law placement in the Office of the Public Advocate and completed a review of state and territory laws affecting interstate recognition of Enduring Power of Attorney documents. Karen also participated in a mentoring program with His Honour Justice Young of the Family Court and completed a paper on s 118 Family Law Act 1975 (Cth).
In 1995 Karen completed a Diploma of Management and Industrial Relations whilst working as an Intensive Care Nurse in Dublin, Ireland.
Since commencing at Guild, Karen has assisted with litigation against Pharmacists, Physiotherapists, Veterinarians and Beauticians.
